Rose Lake & LeRoy Township Voters  0.7 Mils for 5 Years

Rose Lake & Leroy Township voters will decide on a new library millage of 0.7 mils for 5 years on November 3, 2026.

On Tuesday, November 3, voters in Rose Lake and LeRoy Townships will be asked to approve the first ever, millage proposal for the LeRoy Community Library.  The request is for 0.7 mils ($.70 cents) for every $1000 of taxable value.   This money will be used for operational and needed maintenance expenses.  The library was built in 1991 and added onto in 1998-1999.  The roof, siding, and windows are all original to the building and in need of replacement.

  • What is the current budget for the library?
  • How is the library currently funded?
    • Penal fines (about $13,000)  and State Aid (about $3000) are the two, static funding sources, amounting to $26,000.  The remainder - $73,200 is from gifts, donations, and grants.
  • Has the library received $73,000 + in grants?
    •  The library received 5 years of funding (beginning in 2021), from a private donor,  in the hopes that the program numbers, usage, walk-in numbers would support a millage request.  That donor made about a $50,000 donation annual contribution for this 5 year period.  The library increased program numbers, usage, technology, remote access to library services (Libby and Hoopla), and transitioned to a more inclusive, community-centered facility.   The 5 year period comes to an end in 2027, and the library must find a way to replace this revenue stream.
  • What will happen if the millage passes in one township but not the other?
    • The library district includes both LeRoy and Rose Lake Townships - and if the millage request fails in one township, the proposal fails.  The request must pass in both townships.
